John lives and works in both in North Wales and Crete where he presently exhibits his artwork. He has exhibited in numerous one and two person exhibitions in Wales, London and the UK. He has exhibited his work in mixed shows across the UK, and in London, Greece, Germany and the USA. He has also had work in mixed exhibitions at prestigious galleries such as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London on a number of occasions.
The two sided self-standing paintings on wood can potentially used as an installation. He has also worked on a series of metal reliefs where he is looking at corrosion, erosion and process that have evolved from his geological etchings. John has researched techniques drawn from Byzantine Icon painting and has in integrated some of these into his own work, particularly the use of gold and silver leaf. In addition to this he still works with gouache, watercolour and collage. The Arts Council of Wales has supported the research and development of this work.
John Hedley secured an Arts Council of Wales grant in 2015 to enable explorations of process in the project ‘Stress, Layering and Cracking (Two Islands: Crete & Ynys Môn)’. On the basis of the resulting work the project ‘Fingertips in Time: Artwork from Crete/Ynys Môn Natural Forms’ secured further funding for the work to be developed as a series of exhibitions.
